Fundamental principle of dimming film:
The core technology of dimming film is polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC). Here’s how it works:
- No electric field state: When the dimming film is powered off, the liquid crystal droplets are randomly oriented in the polymer matrix, resulting in the refractive index of the liquid crystal not matching with the matrix, and the light is strongly scattered, presenting an opaque state of milky white.
- Electrified state: After an electric field is applied, the optical axis of the liquid crystal droplets will be arranged along the direction of the electric field. At this time, the refractive index of the liquid crystal and the polymer matches, the light can pass through the film, and the dimming film becomes transparent.
